Conservation and cleaning work has been completed on Piha’s WW1 Roll of Honour. The lead lettering has been checked and loose letters batted back.
One coat of efflorescent paultice worked well and has drawn out a lot of salt. and the copper staining has been removed with a copper paultice.
The worst of the corrosion has been cleaned from the copper bolts, but the patina has been left intact. The nuts have been waxed to prevent further corrosion.
The conservationist has advised that this treatment is repeated at least every 2 years to help preserve the plaque from further deterioration.
