Titahi Bay came out victorious in the final of the Big Boat Classic at Piha, with Piha A second and Red Beach third. The weather and waves were perfect for surfboats on Saturday 2 February, but a lull struck the final, and it was essentially a race that involved rowing out and rowing back. Neither of the first three boats caught a wave, and boats behind them that could possibly have overtaken them with a wave rising up behind the leaders, instead piled into each other after broaching.
