Auckland Transport is consulting on speeds on the Piha Road.
Coming westwards, AT wants to reduce the speed from the Anawhata turnoff from 100 kph to 70 kph.
From 30 metres east of 170 Piha Road (on the right, past the Karekare turnoff) AT wants to reduce the speed all the way down to Pendrell Road corner to 50 kph (it is already 50 kph from Pendrell Road down).
The Waitakere Ranges Local Board has been advocating that the 50 kph speed should start at the Karekare turnoff, as a logical point that would also help protect walkers on the Hillary Trail. AT has responded that there are not enough driveways turning off this stretch of road to reduce to 50 kph, and it is not supported by the Police.
