Piha RSA Morepork Kitchen serves very good meals from Monday to Sunday (Wednesday to Sunday winter hours after Easter) and reasonably priced beer and wine can be obtained from the bar. Blackboard food changes but always stars pan-fried terakihi (my favourite), beer-battered fish, scotch fillet, mussels and usually a pasta and a curry. All food is nicely cooked and most meals come with chips and fresh salad. Prices are very reasonable, about $22 for pan-fried fish, less for pastas, more for steak. If you are not full then, there is usually a pudding with vanilla ice cream. You can also get food to take away.
The Morepork Kitchen is operated by Jason Friend, Eyenta Livingstone and their sidekick Phil Hakaraia. A wide variety of food is available catering for vegetarians, gluten free and of course meat lovers. Jason has had a long career in the Hospitality industry, before taking on the Catering contract here at the RSA he worked at the Piha Cafe and before that at the Hardware Cafe in Titirangi. Eyenta, likewise has had a long a varied career in the food industry, coming runner up in the Hell’s Kitchen and then working with Simon Gault and perfecting her trade under his keen eye.
