Pest Free Piha has received a small grant from Predator Free New Zealand to tackle rats in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle. There has been an upsurge in rat numbers following the cyclone, possibly a result of rotting food and unattended houses. Traps are made by the Men’s Shed at Pinesong Retirement Village and were given away during an event at Piha Domain in late February. Photo shows the men at Pinesong with rat traps for Pest Free Piha.
