The Piha Cafe has applied for a liquor licence using the fast-track method put in place for the Rugby World Cup. This allows a very short time for submissions (by 5 pm 15 August) and only those with “an interest greater than the general public may object”.
Currently, the cafe has a recently gained resource consent to serve alcohol, but has not yet gained a liquor licence which must be obtained from the Police.
The current application to the RWC Authority that is being sought by the Cafe owners – Pattie andPeter Dillon – is for a temporary licence for the period 9 September to 31 October from 11 am to 7 pm. The owners wish to serve alcohol and food and show live screening of games.
