CALL OUT TO INTERESTED ARTISTS TO BE PART OF A COMMEMORATIVE INSTALLATION
Next year, 7 February 2013, marks the 150th anniversary of the wreck of HMS Orpheus on the Manukau Bar, New Zealand’s most devastating maritime disaster.
Some of the bodies from the disaster turned up at Piha beach, and a number of the men who survived took the opportunity to disappear into the bush and find work in the timber mills of the Waitakeres.
The Voyager NZ Maritime Museum would like to install a commemorative installation outside the museum to mark the loss of the 189 crew on board. Lopdell House Gallery would like to support this by finding artists be part of this installation. If you would like to participate please contact the gallery for more details.
