Rubbish bins to replace the old pipe bins were installed in parks throughout Piha in time for Labour Day weekend. With grey-green metal and wooden sides, the bins fit in well to the natural environment of Piha and will weather with age.
Also in place, is a new sign to replace one vandalised by the Eel Bridge leading from the Domain to the beachfront. The new text highlights the aquatic life to be found in the stream. Despite the problems with pollution, Piha Stream contains a wealth of creatures, some of which are only found in a handful of places in the Auckland region.
The pile standing next to the new sign, is wood from the old bridge.
