The Piha Tennis Club has been successful in an application to the Trusts Charitable Foundation for funds to resurface the tennis courts and replace the perimeter fence. The astroturf courts were installed on the club’s 50th anniversary in 1996 so have done good service in the challenging salt-laden environment of Piha.
A total of $65,000 has been granted towards the total cost of $72,254.50. The club committee has decided on a two-tone green colour for the surface, with blue lines set into court 2 for netball and a black perimeter fence with two gates. The gate at the back (adjacent to the stream) will be moved to the north-west corner for access from the new Piha Sports facility.
Work will likely commence in the last week in April or the first week of May and is expected to take two weeks to complete.
The club has also announced that a new website has been set up to inform members and community about progress on the new joint facility with the Piha Bowling Club.
