It started with a man with raised arm in front of Pakiti. Down came the IRB at full tilt and hauled him out. This was followed by the retrieval of first one then a second woman, one with injured leg and the second with an injured hand. All were fully dressed.

The man was walking after his rescue, but one woman was taken out in an ambulance and the other by helicopter. I couldnt help but observe the professionalism of the operation, and the availability of services, with the trained crew at the surf club, Fiona with First Response and ambulance and helicopter crews. A far cry from the “old days” and a big relief to know the best of care is available when people get into trouble.
