Plume of smoke over Anawhata 5 pm 15 January 2025

The siren went at Piha around 5 pm Wednesday 15 January signalling a fire at Anawhata. A number of fire crews attended and three helicopters with monsoon buckets. Seven people trapped at the beach were rescued by the Piha surf life saving crews using IRBs and brought back to Piha. The fire was largely out by 6 pm and crews were to check at 6 am the next morning.
