The five-day 2013 National Scholastic Surfing Championship was strung out because of big messy surf, but was completed with some success, notably the first place in the Under-18 Boys’ Final for Elliot Paerata-Reid with 15 points. His Piha team-mate, Ware Wano, came in 3rd in the same event with 8.4 points.
Other Piha success was Bradyn Louie, third in the Under-14 Boys.
The competition pitches region against region with Bay of Plenty coming out overall victors in that contest.
Now, Paerata-Reid is off to Oz to work on his techniques ahead of the Australian national champs.
