Bob Harvey has been made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in this year’s New Year’s Honours, for services to local government and the community.

A former mayor or Waitakere City Council, and former president of Surf Life Saving New Zealand, Harvey is currently the chair of the Waterfront Development Agency. He has been involved in the Film Commission and is the author of many books about the Waitakeres and people in the West.

Good to see also that Bill Burrill received a QSM for his contibution to regional parks and conservation. Bill was chair of the Parks and Heritage Committee in the ARC from 1995 to 2004, and a big supporter of the various mainland island restoration projects that got going over that period.
