Hot day today, but went and inspected how our bush regeneration is getting on. People at Piha 20 years ago will recall the fires in 1994 and 1996 that ripped through the parkland at Tasman lookout and The Gap, and the Byers and my family’s property. Since then, my family has been controlling gorse and other weeds on the acres we lost, and replanting with natives we grow from seed gathered on the property.
So here’s a resume of our progress. The first photo is after the fire in 1994 and the others are taken today. Note on the 2nd photo the contrast with the neighbouring property – top right – where no work has been done. Great progress, but still more to go. Hope we get it done before we’re too old to keep it up.
